About Vitiligo

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that occurs when melanocytes – melanin-producing skin cells– are destroyed, which causes the loss of skin color. When this happens, pale patches on the skin start to develop all over the body and, eventually, these patches turn completely white.1,2,3

Those with Vitiligo can develop low self-esteem or poor self-image from concerns about appearance, which can affect their quality of life.3

Symptoms include:1

  • Depigmented patches that appear anywhere on the body
  • Patches of hair on body turn silver, gray or white
  • Patches of skin or mucous membranes that lose color

The Vitiligo Study is researching the effectiveness of a new cell-harvesting device for those with Vitiligo.

What is a clinical research study?

A Clinical Research Study (also called a clinical trial) is a medical study that helps answer important questions about an investigational drug or device, such as: does it work, or how effective is it compared to another drug/device?

All medications must be tested in clinical research studies before they can be approved by regulatory authorities for doctors to prescribe to patients. Without people taking part in these studies, we would have no new treatments. The volunteers who participate in clinical research studies play a major role in helping to advance medicine.
